Hardware

Cybernetic implants. These replace flesh and bone these artificial prosthesis have developed way beyond the old wooden leg, even out performing the original flesh that they replace. Originally developed as replacements for amputees, allowing injured military soldiers to continue their careers. However it was soon realised that these 'repaired' soldiers had an advantage over their uninjured comrades so voluntary implants and amputations become increasingly common.

Sanity

A sane mind will not accept an unfeeling metal limb as a suitable replacement for the original flesh. Each piece of Hardware has an effect on sanity, the severity depends on the invasion of the surgery, the side effects and the required changes in lifestyle and thinking. Most external devices will cost 1-3 points of San depending on how well the device replaces the original. The loss of the sense of touch is the most noticed difference, then comes the stares of on lookers. The fear of injuring others accidentally with the new strength of a piece of Hardware has a harsh effect on sanity.

Particularly expensive prosthesis are not noticeable, even to the wearer. Most typical militarydevices are far from this ideal.

With rehabilitation and psycho analysis Sanity losses can be reduced to half.

Magic

The loss of sanity by any means is dangerous and should be best avoided by any mage.

Surgery

This can be expensive if done professionally. However with the effectiveness of modern antibiotics the risk of infection can be reduced. This has led to some rather questionable hygiene practices in the shanty towns and in low-level 'surgeries'. This has all lead to cheaper prices for the consumer.

 

Replacement Limbs.

Cybernetic Arm

The arms strength is 8 for grabbing or striking with the arm. In situations where the wielders strength must compliment the action average the scores, Eg lifting.

Damage to the arm is recorded as normal however injury penalties are considered a level lower. The arms SHK is 18, has body of 8 and armour of 1.

Cybernetic Leg

As per Arm (8) but the strength of a such a leg is seldom usable unless mounted in pairs, as the movement of the leg is rarely independent of the spine, when attached in pairs further 'surgery' is performed that reinforces the hips and spine. If mounted with a pair of arms the reinforcement can be interlocked allowing the user the full benefit of all of their limbs and thereby having 8 strength.

Sanity Cost : 2

 

Reinforced Hands

When used in fist-fights depending on model different amounts of damage are dealt. The basic models are simple reinforcements more expensive models include a Taser like arrangement that add damage thru electric shock.

Damage +2 (+7 for taser model)

Sanity Cost : 1 (2 for taser model)

 

Ergonomic & Aesthetic Construction

This halves Sanity cost of the cybernetic. Detecting the device is also made difficult, Normal limbs appear to be normal under normal clothing but these versions are only detectible upon close inspection. Magical detection is unaffected. The cost of the limb is doubled.

 

Strength Boost.

This increases the Strength of the limb by 2 for each boost purchased. For every 2 levels purchased the sanity cost goes up by 1. Cost is equal to half of the original price. (eg +4 strength doubles cost and 1 San Point)

Cybernetic Eyes

Replacement eyes normally just replace lost standard vision. However they may be fitted for other 'options'. They can allow the wearer to see infrared, X-rays, are able to see long distances and even microscopic objects. Standard cybernetic eyes are immune to blinding by flash or teargas.

Sanity Cost : 2

Other Cybernetics

Lungs, hearts and other internal organs as well other external items etc. can all be replaced with standard or better mechanical organs. Depending on what is augmented increases in Shock or Resist are possible.

Lungs +2 Shock. Includes 2 minute independent air supply

Kidneys +2 Resist vs Drugs/Poisoning

Heart +2 Shock.

Adrenal Glands. When activated Strength and Shock increased by 4 also all Wound are penalties ignored.

Sanity Cost : 1 each

 

Mind Copy

Sometimes knowledge can be so important that it take precedence over life itself. More accurately life is cheap and knowledge is power. A persons entire personality and all their memories can be copied for latter use. These 'personalities' are used as the basis for AI's. It is far easier to steal a real persons memories than it is to create them from scratch. This can also afford the rich a form of immortality, in fact some of the major company heads are believed to now be AI's effectively as immortal as their companies.

A mind copy Takes about 20 minutes (much longer on older machines) and effectively copies the individuals entire personality and all their memories.

Cost $50,000 + $1000month storage.

* A PCs could be copied this way and upon the character's death an AI version could be activated enabling that character to continue being played. The character losses 2points of Sanity, lose all Physical Stats & Shock and keep only their Mental Stats and Skills, Luck remains the same as it was in life, even if it is above normal AI maximums. The player gives the GM a copy of their character sheet at the time the Mind Copy is made, these are the stats that are later used. AIs are free to roam a network but may not leave it unless provided a from.

Droids

Not all AIs are used to operate chicken soup dispensers. Some have tangible physical forms. They are used for mining, manufacturing, and even security and law enforcement. Players may take a Droid character by taking an AI character and allocating points to a physical form. Droids that may carry an AI can be purchased but actual physical stats are set by the type of droid.

Owning a droid is a costly exercise normally only those that live in the Inner Core can afford them, where they are seen as a status symbol and in the more exclusive areas are commonplace.

Stats are an average a 1-2 point variation is not uncommon, different manufactures place their priorities differently.
