The Fall.
Elves came here from another place. They were drawn here by the demons, they
were drawn here to restore the balance.
They descended from the skyes brought by dragon. Initially the balance was sort
by reducing the number of potential hosts, but the humans resisted and the decades
past. Little was achieved other than drawing forth more demons. Demons attracted
by the violence.
A truce was reached, they would join the humans and fight side by side but man was weak, many of their number fell to the ways of the demons.The foolish sort comfort in the demon cities.
An end was sort, they would leave the humans deep in the ground in their demon
hells.
The elves would summon forth their mighty dragons and cleanse the world.
The demons depravity knew no bounds they managed to separate the elvin children from their noble parents and trapped them in one of their hells. The children's guards protected them with their lives but failed.
Given up for dead the children some how managed to survive, living from hand to mouth scavenging through the underground hell endlessly searching for an exit, keeping alive the old ways.
Centuries passed the demons of their hell could no longer contain their number and they escaped. Their families had long left, they were alone. It was discussed at length and it was decided that they would remain and keep the balance.
For centuries more they fought the demons liberating some of the humans and the other races from their underground hells. At vast cost they regained the balance, they controlled the southern continent and the demons the northern.
It was the humans world so the elves returned it to them. They had done their task and could simply retire to watch and wait.
A blood thirsty faction of elves came about. They fought for the right to destroy the demons, the humans and everyone including the elves.
The dark elves fought, they murdered, they lied. The other races and the elves
fought them and chased them back into the underground hell that had corrupted
them. The dark elves happily returned to their ancient hell into the arms of
their jailers.
The elves of Illandar, Lohze and Borden all share similar histories. Illandar and Lohze are very similar whereas the elves of Borden are quite barbaric.
The elves are ruled by royal family lines, however Illandar and Lohze also have senates that have equal power.
The Elvin Capital. Here lies the centre of elvin civilization.
Realizing the rapid reproduction rate of humans the Elves of Lohze elected to ban human settlers from their island. Merchants are allowed in the trading ports and occasionally the other areas with the correct paperwork. In fact their Senate elected to meet any potential threat with overwhelming force
The Elves of Borden are considered barbaric by their southern cousins, they regularly war with their mortal neighbours and often must raid the surrounding islands for food and produce during the harder months, especially if crops fail due to bad weather or demonic activity.
These elves were separated from the southern elves when they were still at war with the demons. The demons tend to keep away from the area which has allowed this city to survive. This city is a snap shot of the elves before the schism, before the elven senate before the dark elf betrayal.
Elves are in the minority in UnderCities, modern society is completely alien to them. UnderCity elves do not integrate well, their large pointed ears and strange ways making them the butt of much ridicule. Most will break the ear cartilage and hide them amongst their hair, others have been know to hack them off in fits of depression.
Elvin reproductions rates are low. The tenuous balance of good and evil magic has left few places where the elves can conceive. Their cities are in some of the last places left. It can take up to a century for an elf to conceive and then the pregnancy is hard on the elvin form due to it's length. (2years) Delivery is complicated and infections common.
Elvin has evolved from ancient the form, it is now much more refined and beautiful than it once was. Many poets and scholars over the centuries have refined and improved the language, mostly the grammar, pronunciation and the occasional word have been changed.
The royal court speak the ancient form unaltered which is the language of the Dragons as well as the language of Magic. Demons have been known to communicate in this language.
The modern and the ancient share the same alphabet and are phonetic.
